Impact of WhatsApp’s new privacy policy: 82% Indian users ready to leave WhatsApp!

The policy update of WhatsApp has become a problem for the company. WhatsApp had said in its new policy that it will share users’ data with its parent company including Facebook. Due to this, now Indian users are keeping distance from WhatsApp. A recent survey revealed that only 18 percent of users in India can continue using WhatsApp. At the same time, 36 percent of the users have expressed the possibility that they will reduce WhatsApp usage significantly. Apart from this, 15 percent of the users have expressed the possibility of closing the app completely amid the privacy dispute.

WhatsApp had earlier given people time till February 8 to review its policy, but now the company has extended it to May 15. The company had said that those who do not accept the policy within the stipulated time, their account will be automatically deleted. After this policy update, millions of people downloaded apps like Signal and Telegram as an alternative to WhatsApp.

In this survey conducted on WhatsApp, responses have been received from more than 24 thousand people. This has been revealed through the report of Mashable. 24 percent of users have informed that they are planning to switch to another instant messaging platform. At the same time, 91 percent of the users have informed that they will not use the payment feature of WhatsApp. These people fear that WhatsApp may share their payment and transaction related data with parent company Facebook and other third parties.

However, WhatsApp has extended its policy update deadline from February to May 15. According to Mashable’s report, Signal and Telegram received 1.3 million downloads between January 1 and January 5. While Signal’s growth during this period has been 9,483 percent, Telegram’s growth has been 15 percent. At the same time, between January 6 and January 10, the download growth of WhatsApp has declined by 35 percent.
