Facebook Messenger gets new app lock feature, chats will remain safe

An extra layer of security has been added to Facebook Messenger with the App Lock feature. This feature locks the app and gives users the opportunity to unlock the app using their biometrics such as Touch ID or Face ID. The feature is available in India, however, it is currently limited to iOS and iPad users. This feature will be given to Android users of Facebook Messenger in the coming few months. Additionally, Facebook has announced new privacy features for the Messenger platform.

The App Lock feature on the Messenger app can be set from inside the Privacy section in the Settings page. Notably, the new privacy feature does not restrict notifications and users will need to customize this setting under the “Notifications and sounds” section in the app.

The social media giant has announced another privacy feature for the messenger platform. With this new feature, users will be able to control messages or calls from other users directly on the app. Additionally, Facebook will start blurring photos that arrive in the message requests folder, similar to what happens in WhatsApp with photos received from unknown users.

Recall that recently the company had launched a screen sharing feature for Messenger app users on Android and iOS. This feature can also be accessed through Messenger Rooms on the web and desktop.
