WhatsApp Chat Lock Feature Soon Extend to Linked Devices

WhatsApp introduced the chat lock feature last year. This feature allows users to keep their chats in a hidden folder that can only be accessed through a secure passcode, fingerprint, or Face ID. Meta introduced this feature to improve security and privacy protection on WhatsApp. Now, the social media giant is reportedly looking to extend the chat lock function to linked devices. It is being said that the upcoming update of WhatsApp will bring the feature for linked devices. This update has been seen in Android beta version 2.24.8.4 of WhatsApp.

WhatsApp feature tracker WABetaInfo Claim WhatsApp is working on a locked chat feature for linked devices and it will be available in an upcoming update. The publication has spotted the upcoming feature in the new WhatsApp beta for Android 2.24.8.4 update which is available through the Google Play beta program.

The locked chat feature is no longer available to testers, but the report includes a preview of the function. As per the shared screenshot, the app will allow users to set a secret code for chat access on the linked device. The secret code has to be set from the primary device by going to Chat Lock Settings>Secret Code option.

WhatsApp introduced a new chat lock feature in May 2023 and this feature is currently limited to primary devices. It gives users more control over their personal and group chats. The sender’s name will not appear in notifications of locked chats, nor will the message preview be visible. Users can view these hidden chats in a separate locked chat folder, which can only be accessed through a passcode, fingerprint, and Face ID.

The developers of Meta are continuously bringing new and upcoming features to WhatsApp through the beta channel. It is reportedly working on enabling international payments through its in-app Unified Payments Interface (UPI) service. Apart from this, WhatsApp for Android is reportedly getting a new feature to set the upload quality of photos and videos directly through Settings.
