A WhatsApp update tracker from WABetaInfo Report According to, the instant messaging platform is testing a new feature that was spotted in the WhatsApp beta for iOS 24.8.10.70 update via the TestFlight app. The report also states that some beta testers may have access to the new feature, although it has not been rolled out on a large scale in the beta app. The special thing is that the same feature was also introduced in the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.24.9.14 build, which suggests that both platforms may soon get this feature in their apps.
Based on the screenshots shared by the publication, the Recently Online list appears only on the New Chat and New Call screens, where users select a contact to write a text or make a call. Here, below the basic menu option, a new section will appear highlighting contacts who were recently online. It is not clear what recently online means and what is the time limit after which a name is removed from the list.
According to the report, this feature in WhatsApp will not show the list of people who are currently online, or when they were last online. This has probably been done to protect the privacy of users. Apart from this, those users who have not cleared their last seen for anyone will not appear in this list. At present, it is also not known whether those users will be able to see the recently online list or not. This feature is currently in beta, but the report claims that it can be introduced to users globally in the coming weeks.
