Shark Tank judge Anupam Mittal furious with billing system of Google, Calls is Digital East India Company

Internet search engine Google has faced a string of controversies in India for the past few months. Shark Tank India judge and businessman Anupam Mittal has termed Google’s billing system as “illegal” and described Alphabet, which runs it, as ‘Digital East India Company’. He said that Google has violated the laws of the country.

Along with this, Mittal expressed hope that this issue will be given attention by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO). He tweeted, “Received a call from Google in which their payments have been made mandatory for Indian developers. This is a violation of Indian laws. I hope the ‘PMO’ will pay attention to this. This is a Digital East India company. ” Recently there was a change in the policy by Google. If you choose Google’s alternative billing system, you will still have to pay a service fee, but it will be four percent less than the standard fee.

Google had earlier also been accused of violating Competition Commission of India (CCI) orders and charging 11-26 percent commission from app developers choosing alternative billing systems. Alliance of Digital India Foundation (ADIF) had requested authorities including CCI to look into the matter and ensure that Google fully complies with this order.

ADIF, a policy think tank associated with digital startups, had said in a statement, “Recently Google has changed the method of billing for app developers. The company has said that if a user pays through an alternative billing system So the service fee of Google play will be reduced by four percent. This will force the app developers to pay commission to the company even if they do not use Google’s service. ADIF said that by this Google is completely violating the order of CCI. CCI had directed the company that it should not impose any conditions on app developers that are unfair or discriminatory. No reason has been given as to why the company is charging a commission of 11-26 percent even if the user uses a third-party processing service.
