17.1 million online accounts hacked in India in 3 months Surfshark report
According to News18 report, Surfshark’s analysis says that since 2004, India is the eighth largest country in the world, where the maximum number of online accounts have been breached. A total of 320.5 million accounts have been leaked in 19 years. In comparison to India, 3 billion accounts in America, 2.4 billion accounts in Russia, 1.1 billion accounts in China, 521.6 million accounts in France, 486.7 million accounts in Germany, 354.2 million accounts in Brazil and 321.9 million online accounts in UK have been breached.
The analysis says that of the 320.5 million online accounts that were hacked, 88 million were unique e-mail addresses. On average, for every email address, 3.8 more personal records are leaked. Along with these accounts, 162 million passwords were also leaked, which increases the risk of users’ accounts being taken over. This also increases the risk of other types of cyber crimes among the users.
Statistics from January to March show that more online accounts have been hacked in India than in Bangladesh. Although China is ahead of us in this matter. Usually, due to this type of breach, confidential information of the users gets leaked and important information like their name, address, phone number, e-mail and customer ID also gets into the hands of cyber attackers.
