On December 30, the US Space Agency’s spacecraft passed close to a ‘dangerous’ celestial body in our solar system. It took pictures of Jupiter’s moon Io, which has the most active volcanoes. According to the information, when Juno spacecraft reached close to Io, the distance between the two was 1500 kilometers. The ‘Juno Cam’ installed in the spacecraft took many pictures. In one of these photos, active volcanoes can be seen in Io.

According to reports, the Juno spacecraft had to face a lot of radiation during such a close flight. Juno spacecraft reached the orbit of Jupiter in 2016. Since then it is continuously monitoring him. On April 8 this year, Juno completed its 50th close pass of Jupiter. That means the spacecraft completed 50 revolutions around Jupiter. This spacecraft is also exploring other moons of Jupiter, among which Ganymede is prominent.

The special thing is that NASA’s expectations have increased due to the recent flyby. Juno spacecraft will once again reach close to Io in February next month. It will be an ultraclose flyby, i.e. closer than the December 30 flight. A target has been set to complete this mission by 2025. During its journey to Io, the Juno spacecraft will have to change its orbit 18 times.

The goal of the mission is to investigate the temperature of the lava flowing on Io and find out what kind of activities are taking place in it. It is estimated that at present there are about 266 active hot spots in IO. In the coming years, scientists will also collect information about many more moons of Jupiter. Europa is prominent among these. It is believed that Europa may have a salty ocean beneath a thick sheet of ice on its surface.
