Personal computer sales declined in India: Gartner

A total of 2 million units of personal computers (PC) were sold in India in the first quarter of 2015, which is 7.4 percent less than the same quarter last year. Market research firm Gartner gave this information on Tuesday. Vishal Tripathi, research director at Gartner, said, “Consumers purchased a total of 45 percent of PCs in the first quarter of 2016, which is 48 percent less than the first quarter of 2015.”

At the same time, fewer PCs were purchased by both the industry sector and consumers in the first quarter of 2016.

He further says, “While this quarter was the end of the financial year for some companies, it was expected that the industry would make huge purchases to spend their budget. But it is expected to have more impact on the PC market. “And the PC market continues to face challenging times.”

According to Gartner, HP remained the number one company in the Indian market in the first quarter of 2016 because of the company’s good reach from online sales to retailers.

At the same time, in the first quarter, there has been a decline of 13 percent in the sales of mobile PC on year-on-year basis, because now consumers do not seem to be very interested in buying it.
