Personal computer market declined in India: Report

Sales of desktops, laptops and tablets in the country declined by 13 percent year-on-year to 22 lakh in the second quarter of 2015. This information came from a report released by research company Gartner.

American company Hewlett Packard (HP) remains at the top market share with 26.3 percent. However, the company’s sales were down by 6.1 percent. The company’s market share in the second half of 2014 is 29.4 percent.

“Consumer purchases account for 48 percent of this market,” said Vishal Tripathi, research director at Gartner.

He said, “The Indian PC market weakened due to low demand from industry in the quarter under review. This again shows that the business environment has been weak in the second quarter of 2015.”

Lenovo’s market share increased from 14 percent to 18.1 percent in the quarter under review. Dell’s market share increased by 2.7 percent in the last one year, while Acer’s share declined by 3.1 percent.

During this period, the share of assembled PC declined by seven percent to 44 percent. The laptop market declined by 18 percent during this period.
