According to a report by WhatsApp feature tracker WABetaInfo, the Meta-owned messaging service is preparing a function to hide online status from selected contacts. Once released, the features will let users choose when they can view online within WhatsApp privacy settings. The report includes a screenshot showing the new privacy settings feature. It is said that this option is under development and an update is expected in the future.

In related news, WhatsApp is reportedly updating the time limit for deleting messages for everyone. The messaging platform is said to be rolling out the update with beta 2.22.15.8 for Android through the Google Play Beta program. According to the report, WhatsApp is increasing the time limit for the ‘Delete for Everyone’ feature to two days and 12 hours from the current option of one hour, 8 minutes and 16 seconds. The longer time limit will help users delete erroneously sent messages.
