Toyota Made Record of Sales in India, Registers 48 Percent Growth

Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM), one of the big automobile companies, has achieved record wholesales in the last financial year. Its sales increased by 48 percent to about 2.65 lakh units. In the previous financial year it was around 1.77 lakh units. The company’s sales in March increased by almost 25 percent to 27,180 units.

Toyota’s portfolio in India ranges from Glanza to Fortuner Legender. Sabari Manohar, Vice President, TKM, said, “The company has always been at the forefront in understanding the needs of its customers and offering them quality products and services.” In the last financial year, the company has benefited from positive sentiment in the automobile market. The company has strengthened its position in the MPV and SUV segments. Apart from this, mid-size SUV, Urban Cruiser has also made a place in the price category of less than Rs 20 lakh with Hyrider.

Last month, sales of the company’s MPV Innova Hycross had crossed 50,000 units since its launch. Its price ranges between Rs 19.77 lakh to Rs 30.68 lakh (ex-showroom). The company is giving a warranty of three years or one lakh kilometers with it. It has also been made available in hybrid version. Its petrol engine can generate maximum power of 174 PS and peak torque of 205 Nm. Its petrol hybrid engine generates 186 PS and 206 Nm of peak torque. Its mileage has been claimed to be 21.1 kmpl. The petrol engined Innova Hycross is available in two variants – G and GX.

TKM plans to set up its third plant in the country in Karnataka. With this, the production capacity of the company can increase by one lakh units. An investment of about Rs 3,300 crore will be made in this plant to be built in Bidadi, Karnataka. This plant will provide employment to about 2,000 people. The company plans to increase its production in the country. It has two plants in the country with a capacity of about 3.42 lakh units per year. Chief Operating Officer of Toyota’s Asia Region, Masahiko Maeda had said that the country’s market is very important for the company. The new plant will also help the company increase its sales in the country.
