Acer Smartphones to come in India Under Rs 50000 as Indkal Technologies Signs Licensing Deal more details

Acer branded smartphones are also coming to India soon. Another firm has joined hands with the company. Bengaluru-based Indkal Technologies has partnered with Acer. Indkal Technologies has signed a licensing agreement with Acer under which this startup will launch Acer smartphones in India. Although Acer smartphones were launched once in India before this, but soon the company’s smartphone business was closed here. Now once again these smartphones are going to be seen in the Indian market.

Indkal recently raised $36 million (about Rs 300 crore) through Mauritius-based Aries Opportunities Fund. Now the company has made a deal with Taiwanese electronics company Acer. Under the deal, Indkal will design, manufacture and distribute these smartphones. That means the name will be Acer and the smartphones will be manufactured by Indkal. These smartphones will be launched in the range of Rs 15 thousand to Rs 50 thousand.

The company is going to compete with brands like Oppo, Vivo, Tecno, and OnePlus. Dominant players like Xiaomi and Samsung are already present in the segment. All these companies have been presenting their smartphones in this range in the Indian market, hence Indkal and Acer will have to compete tough with them. Because all these companies already have a strong hold in the Indian market. Jade Zhou, Vice President of Global Strategic Alliances at Acer Inc. said that he is excited by this move by Indkal Technologies. The company will launch a large range of smartphones in the Indian market under the Acer brand.

These smartphones will be manufactured in India only, which will be done under the Make in India initiative. Advanced software technology will be used in these. Indkal says it has a target of manufacturing 1 lakh units per year. The company is also applying for the Smartphone Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme. Acer branded smartphones will be made available for purchase on all major e-commerce platforms in India. They will also be sold at offline retail stores.
