Apple M4 chip to get competition from Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 and Dimensity 9500 in single core performance
Apple’s M4 chip’s single-core performance dominance may soon end. Qualcomm’s upcoming Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 chipset, and Mediatek’s upcoming Dimensity 9500 chipset can give a tough competition to Apple in this matter. China’s famous tipster Digital Chat Station weibo Claim in a post on (via) have revealed that both of these alleged chipsets will use ARM’s Scalable Matrix Extension (SME). It is a set of instructions by which the processor performs even complex tasks in a smooth manner. Because of this, better single core performance can be seen in the upcoming chipsets.
Tipster believes that after this happens, this upcoming chipset will be able to give tough competition to Apple’s M4 chipset. Apart from SME support, the tipster has said that these will be built on TSMC’s 3nm N3P processing. This will also increase the efficiency of the chipset.
The Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 may see cores clocked at frequencies up to 5.00GHz. Whereas the cores of Dimensity 9500 can reach up to 4.00GHz. For chipset performance in smartphones, Apple has been the king of single core performance for some time. At the same time, companies like Qualcomm and MediaTek have managed to come close to it in multi-core. Now Apple may soon get competition in single core also. However, right now this news is based only on the tipster’s speculation and hence it cannot be confirmed.
