Apple overtaken by Vivo & Huawei Loses its lead in China smartphone market

Apple’s dominance seems to be ending in China. The country’s domestic companies seem to be moving ahead of Apple. A new report has claimed that Apple, which remained on top till the third quarter of 2024, lagged behind the domestic companies in China in the fourth quarter. Apple, known for iPhone, is facing tough competition from domestic companies in China. The company was overtaken by companies like Vivo, Huawei in the fourth quarter of 2024. reuters According to the news quoted by, Canalys report says that Cupertino based company Apple lagged behind in China. Vivo was at the forefront in defeating Apple, which is now leading the market in the country. With this, Huawei also overtook Apple, which is now the second largest smartphone seller in China.

However, till the third quarter, Huawei was the only company which was running one place below Apple. But surprisingly Vivo led both of them and captured the position of top smartphone company in the fourth quarter. Talking about the share of companies in China’s smartphone market, Vivo currently holds 17% share in the market. Huawei is at second place whose market share is 16%. At the same time, Apple’s market share has remained at 15%.

The report says that Apple had to suffer losses in the Chinese market because the support for AI powered features in the iPhone is still very less. Due to lack of these features, iPhones have become unattractive to users in the country. Whereas smartphones of other brands sold in China come with a lot of AI features. This was the reason that the company had to suffer huge losses in annual sales in the Chinese market.

According to Canalys senior analyst Zhu Jiatao, Apple is currently facing many challenges from its competitors in the market. Huawei has been continuously launching its flagship models. Sales of domestic foldable phones have also increased in China. Companies like Xiaomi and Vivo have also been successful in winning the trust of users by giving priority to technological innovation. Therefore, the competition for Apple in the premium segment has become even tougher. Domestic companies are launching smartphones with flagship and premium features at affordable prices for the users. Due to which the color of Apple’s iPhones has started fading in the market.
