Beware of Pink WhatsApp Scam Message Going Viral Claiming Extra Features Mumbai Police Issues Warning Details

Recently, Mumbai Police issued a public warning, stating that a message going viral on WhatsApp named ‘Pink WhatsApp’ is actually a scam. Cyber police have warned people about this new scam and urged them not to click on the link or download the app.

The advisory reads (translated), “The recent news circulating among WhatsApp users about ‘new pink look WhatsApp’ with additional features is a rumor which can hack your mobile through malicious software. ” Police have asked people to remain alert and wrote in the advisory that “This (warning) is for users to be aware, alert and attentive to these types of frauds and stay safe in the digital world.”
According to Mumbai Police, a message is going viral on WhatsApp, in which a link has been given in the name of the update of the app and it is said that it will change the color of the logo of the platform. Apart from this, it also claims to be equipped with new features to improve the WhatsApp experience.
However, police have warned that the link is a phishing link and if clicked, it attacks users’ phones and steals sensitive information. Apart from this, through this, attackers can also get remote control of the device.
