Big brands worried about fake accounts on Twitter, Elon Musk removed blue tick option

The ‘Official’ badge is back for some accounts on micro-blogging site Twitter. Many Twitter users have reported the verification blue tick missing in new subscriptions. Last month, after completing the deal to buy Twitter for about $44 billion, Elon Musk had given users the facility to pay eight dollars per month for Blue Tick.

Earlier this tick indicating a verified account was available only to politicians, actors and other famous persons. Fake accounts of many big brands, including Musk’s electric car company Tesla, are visible with blue ticks. Pharma company Eli Lilly has had to apologize after a similar fake account provided wrong information about insulin. There is a controversy going on regarding the high prices of insulin. From Eli Lilly’s fake Twitter account Tweet It was said that insulin would be free. After this the company said, “We apologize to those who received a message with wrong information from our fake account.” The company has also given information about its actual Twitter handle.

Apart from this, many misleading tweets have also been made from a fake account of Tesla. This week, Musk had banned the company’s workers from working from home or remote location. Along with this, he also advised the workers to be prepared for difficult times. Musk said there is no way to ignore the state of the economy and how it will impact a company like Twitter that relies on advertising. Musk informed Twitter staff about the new rules in his first email.

Musk says he wants to see subscriptions account for half of the company’s revenue. Earlier, there was a provision for Twitter workers to work from anywhere permanently. The company started work from remote location during the pandemic. Musk said he was against such a system and would allow it on a case-by-case basis. Musk said in the email that the path ahead is difficult and success requires hard work.
