Why was X banned in Brazil?
According to reports, the Supreme Court of Brazil has taken this action in the case of fake news. The court had given Musk’s company 24 hours to appoint an officer and present its case. The company did not do this, after which X was banned. Now, for using X in Brazil, a fine of 50 thousand riyals (approximately Rs 7,47,465) can be imposed.
It is banned in these countries also
China : China banned X in 2009, when it was Twitter. Apps from western countries do not get a place in China anyway. After the ban on X, homegrown apps like Beebo and WeChat became popular there.
Iran : In the year 2009 itself, Iran had also banned Twitter i.e. Protests had intensified after the Presidential elections held there, in view of which Twitter was banned.
Turkmenistan : Turkmenistan banned Twitter in 2010. Action was also taken on many other foreign portals. There are also restrictions regarding internet use in this country.
North Korea: X has been banned in North Korea since 2016. The special thing is that in 2010 the government there had opened an account on X. Facebook is also banned in North Korea.
Myanmar: X is banned in Myanmar from 2021. The army had banned X to suppress the voices of those opposing the coup there.
Russia: Russia had limited access to X in the year 2021. However, people there are able to use it through VPN.
Pakistan : X has been banned in Pakistan since this year. Security reasons are cited behind this. Apart from this, X was also banned in Venezuela for 10 days, which is still continuing.
