BSNL Lost Lakhs of subscribers while Jio Add 39 Lakh in December Says Trai Data

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has recently shared the December subscriber data. The report provides information about many telecom companies and lost subscribers, as well as their total subscribers till 31 December 2024. In November, 1.21 million new subscribers were added to Jio, while BSNL lost 0.34 million subscribers for the first time after the tariff hike. In December 2024, Jio maintained its dominance, while the subscribers of BSNL and VI were continuously reduced.

Jio, Airtel’s subscriber base

According to the report, 2 million new wireless subscribers attended the country in December. Reliance Jio connected 3.9 million wireless subscribers, while Airtel grows 1 million during this period. Jio’s subscriber base is now 465.1 million and Airtel’s subscriber base is now 385.3 million, which was 461.2 million and 384.2 million in November.

BSNL, VI subscriber base

Other telecom companies like Vodafone Idea and BSNL suffered a lot during this period. After the tariff hike, the government -owned telecom company BSNL lost its subscribers, decreasing 0.322 million customers, compared to 20,000 less than November.

Vodafone Idea emerged as the largest loss company despite testing 5G at select places, which caused losses of 1.715 million customers in December, while the figure was just one million in November. By the end of December, BSNL’s subscriber base was 91.7 million and VI’s subscriber base was 207.2 million.
