BSNL Releases Rs 65,000 Crore Tender for BharatNet

The companies selected for this project will also have to operate the network in Gram Panchayats for 10 years. BSNL has invited bids for 16 states and union territories. These include Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, West Bengal, Punjab, Haryana, Kerala, West Bengal and Puducherry. As per the terms of this tender, the company should have a minimum net worth of Rs 50-375 crore depending on the state for which the bid is being given.
BSNL’s consolidated net loss in the third quarter of the current financial year increased to approximately Rs 1,569 crore on quarter-on-quarter basis. It was Rs 1,481 crore in the previous quarter. However, the company’s loss has declined on year-on-year basis. In the same period of the previous financial year, this loss was Rs 1,868 crore. BSNL’s revenue stood at Rs 4,549 crore in the third quarter, up 11.6 percent on quarter-on-quarter basis. There has been an increase of about 2.5 percent on year-on-year basis.
The circles with revenue decline include Karnataka, Gujarat, Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir, parts of the Northeast, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh (West), Kerala and Andaman and Nicobar. “Post the revival package, our investments and efforts are aimed at removing disruptions in service, strengthening the network and driving transformation in our business,” BSNL Chairman PK Purwar said in a letter. BSNL is losing a large number of subscribers due to the delay in the launch of 4G network. It had given the contract for installing 4G network to Tata Group’s IT company TCS. Due to this delay, BSNL’s problems have increased. Lakhs of customers are leaving BSNL’s service every month. Last year the number of its subscribers had decreased to a little more than 9.50 crores. Recently BSNL had said that it aims to achieve 20 percent market share this year.
