We tried playing PUBG Mobile on both the smartphones to check the gaming performance. These smartphones run the default game on high preset while keeping the graphics at HD and frame rate at high. We noticed that both smartphones would occasionally stutter during gameplay and both phones would overheat after 10 minutes.

While taking pictures in low light, we noticed that the Samsung Galaxy M40 took a while to focus. Grain was visible in the photos taken with both the smartphones at night but noticed that Redmi Note 7 Pro slightly increases the sharpness in the photos at night. We put the Redmi Note 7 Pro in Night Mode and switched the Galaxy M40’s Scene Optimizer to Night. Photos taken with Samsung Galaxy M40 came out bright and details were also captured properly.

We also took some portrait shots with both these smartphones and found that the Samsung Galaxy M40 produces better output. The picture had sharpness, color tone was natural and edge detection was also good. The photo taken with Redmi Note 7 Pro lacked sharpness and had warm color tone. With selfies, we saw that both the smartphones capture almost similar details.

We set Beautification to Auto and found that the Samsung Galaxy M40 produces better output. Edge detection was good in portrait shots taken during selfie mode on both the smartphones. But once again the Samsung Galaxy M40 was better at setting the exposure, resulting in better photos.

Both smartphones are capable of 1080p and 4K recording at 1080p, 60 frames per second. We found that the Samsung Galaxy M40 lacked video stabilization in all these shooting modes. Due to which there was a feeling of shake in the 1080 resolution video taken from the Galaxy M40, whereas the Redmi Note 7 Pro stabilized it. There is no stabilization in 4K mode on both these phones but the Samsung Galaxy M40 produced better colors while the Redmi Note 7 Pro’s output was boosted.

Overall, when it comes to photo quality, Samsung Galaxy M40 is slightly ahead of its rival handset Redmi Note 7 Pro. However, you will have to be patient while taking pictures with this phone due to slow autofocus.
