Cognizant warned its workers to return office or be ready for termination

In February, Cognizant had asked its workers in India to attend office three days a week. a media Report “Please note that failure to follow instructions will be considered misconduct in accordance with company policies and appropriate disciplinary action will be taken against you, up to and including termination,” the company was quoted as saying in the letter. Ravi Kumar S, CEO of Cognizant, had said that all associates in the country are expected to be in the office three days per week.
Cognizant has about 2,54,000 workers in the country. Earlier, big software companies like Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) and Infosys had also made it mandatory for their workers to return to the office. TCS has made work from office important by updating the policy related to variable pay. This policy was implemented after the announcement of the company’s quarterly results. In this, four attendance slabs have been created to decide the variable pay of workers.
Under the company’s new policy, less than 60 percent office attendance in a quarter will not get any variable pay for that quarter. In TCS offices, workers with 60-75 percent attendance will get 50 percent of the variable pay, and those with 75-85 percent attendance will get 75 percent. Only those workers with more than 85 percent attendance in the office will be given full variable pay for that quarter. This policy warns that disciplinary action will be taken against workers who continuously violate the rule of 85 percent work from office. TCS CEO, K Krithivasan had described returning to office as important. Even before this, the company had also given reminders to the workers to return to office.
