Crypto Scammers Posing As Recruiters to Circulate Malware, Bitcoin, Ether

Trading in cryptocurrencies has grown rapidly in the last few years. Along with this, scam cases are also increasing in this segment. These scammers often find their victims through social media platforms. A similar scam is being carried out under the guise of job recruiters. In this, job seekers are targeted through the recruitment platform LinkedIn.

Cyber ​​investigator Taylor Monahan (@tayvano_) posted a message on the social media platform Post It has been reported that these scammers contact job seekers and ask them to fix a problem in the software related to video calling and then use malware to access their computers. Screenshots of job listings given by scammers have also been shared in this post. As the job seeker answers questions, scammers ask them to record a video of their answer to the last question. After clicking on ‘Request Camera Access’, another prompt asks you to fix the problem with the camera or microphone.

Monahan said, “Doing so will prompt Chrome to update or restart to fix the problem. This is not meant to fix the problem. Many scammers like this will trick you into copying, pasting, or running code like this.” It will always harm you.” This type of malware allows scammers to access their victims’ systems and steal their funds. Monahan, who is associated with the security division of crypto wallet MetaMask, has said that scammers can also trap you by telling you ways to fix the problem.

In March this year, America’s Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) had reported that these scams had increased by 53 percent last year. Regulators in some countries have prepared to make rules for the crypto segment to deal with this problem. The FBI had said in a report that last year, fraud under the guise of investment in cryptocurrencies increased to $3.94 billion. Last year, people had lost approximately $2.57 billion in these frauds. In such scams, fraudsters offer crypto-related investment advice and ask people to invest money in fake tokens. In this, the lure of getting higher returns is given. Usually, social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter are used to trap people in this scam.
