Datawind launches two ‘mini laptops’, price starts from Rs 5,999

Datawind on Monday launched two budget Android ‘mini laptops’. These devices belong to the company’s ‘DroidSurfer series’. The DroidSurfer 10 and DroidSurfer 7 are priced at Rs 7,999 and Rs 5,999 respectively. Both these notebooks will be available at retail stores across the country.

Along with these notebooks, users will also be given unlimited internet browsing pack for one year along with prepaid connections of Reliance and Telenor. The user will have to use Ubisurfer browser for this. Does not include audio/video streaming or local downloads. Datawind said that the user will have to take a separate top-up plan for these services.

Speaking at the launch, Suneet Singh Tuli, CEO and President of Datawind Inc., said, “Our aim is to provide free and fast internet anytime, anywhere. “DroidSurfer notebooks will be a great way to balance work and entertainment.”

The DataWind DroidSurfer 10 features a 10-inch touchscreen with a resolution of 1024×600 pixels. It uses 1.2 GHz dual-core Cortex-A9 processor and 1 GB RAM. Inbuilt storage is 8 GB which can be expanded with the help of microSD card. The notebook also has a 0.3 megapixel front camera and is equipped with a 6000 mAh battery. DroidSurfer 10 features Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Wi-Fi hotspot, Wi-Fi Direct, HDMI port, and Micro-USB connectivity.

The Datawind DroidSurfer 7 features a 7-inch WVGA (800×400 pixels) resolution display. The same processor as DroidSurfer 10 has been used in it, but it comes with 512 MB RAM. Inbuilt storage is 4 GB which can be expanded with the help of microSD card. There is no change in the camera resolution, but it will come with a 4000 mAh battery.
