Elon Musk Starlink May Soon Get Approval from the Indian Government

Alan Musk’s visit to India is going to be at a hurry. Prior to that, the Satellite-Based Internet Service Starlink of Tech billionaire Alan Musk has allegedly received temporary approval from the Ministry of Communications. According to reports, the approval process is currently at the desk of Communications Minister Ashwini Vaishnav and is waiting for a final approval from the Ministry of Home Affairs on some security issues. The report also states that a commercial part has been examined on issues like foreign investment and net value (net worth) and technical needs have been investigated as per licensed terms.

Starlink will be issued a global mobile personal communication license by Satellite (GMPCS) services, which is necessary to provide satellite communication services in the country if it is approved by the Government of India.

Musk had earlier tried to start its satellite internet service in India, but had to step back from not getting government approval. The company again tried in November 2022 and applied for GMPCS license. Although the matter could not move much further, the storlink continued continuing efforts.

The government passed the Telecom Bill 2023 in December last year, allowing spectrum allocation for satellite-based services without the need to participate in the auction. This move of the government is in favor of companies like OneWeb, Starlink and Amazon’s Kuper.

Last week, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX confirmed his visit to India to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi. It is expected that he will make several big announcements during his visit to India, including Starlink’s launch and investment between $ 2 to 3 billion in the country.
