Find the shortcomings in Aarogya Setu app, government will give Rs 1 lakh
Source code of Android version of Aarogya Setu available on GitHub from midnight of 26th May Available are done. The National Informatics Center (NIC) has also announced a bug bounty program to encourage researchers to find flaws in the app.
Currently, the Aarogya Setu app has 11.50 crore registered users across all supported platforms. During the conference, Kant also highlighted that the app had already helped more than 1,40,000 people by warning them about possible exposure to coronavirus infection using its internal contact tracing technology.
Security experts have already expressed their concerns over the privacy of users in this app and also urged the government to open the code of the Aarogya Setu app last month. NITI Aayog is also ready to release all subsequent updates of the app through its repository on GitHub.
In addition to open sourcing the code, the government has launched a bug bounty program, which will be hosted by the MyGov team. This program will help security researchers to get a reward of Rs 1 lakh. In this, the person who finds security vulnerabilities or shortcomings in the app will get a reward of Rs 1 lakh. Apart from this, an additional reward of Rs 1 lakh will also be given for improving the code.
