There is also a difference between day and night, which is possible due to the high concentration of water present there. The usefulness of this map will be known when NASA’s Volatiles Investigating Polar Exploration Rover (VIPER) lands on the Moon in the year 2024. This rover will land in the same area as seen by SOFIA.

The presence of water on the Moon has also been claimed in many previous studies. Last year, in a paper published in the international journal Nature Communications, Chinese scientists had said that a significant part of the water found in the samples brought from the Moon might have come from the interior of the Moon. Chinese scientists brought samples from the Moon through the Chang’e 5 mission, which they tested on Earth.

The American space agency is taking missions related to the Moon very seriously. It plans to launch the Artemis 3 mission by 2025. Through this mission, NASA will once again send humans to the Moon. It has also identified 13 areas near the South Pole where the mission can be landed.
