First glimpse of Coolpad Mega 2.5D

Coolpad has launched its fifth smartphone Mega 2.5D in India after launching Note 3, Note 3 Lite, Note 3 Plus and Max handsets. Through this handset, the company is trying to attract those young consumers who are crazy about selfies.

Speaking to Gadgets 360, Coolpad India CEO Syed Tajuddin said that the company aims to capture 13-15 per cent share in the sub-Rs 8,000 smartphone market. He also confirmed that the first batch of Coolpad Mega 2.5D will come from China. After this the handset will be made in India itself under the ‘Make in India’ program. We spent some time with the Mega 2.5D at the launch event held in New Delhi. How did we like this smartphone at first glance? Let us tell you.

The Coolpad Mega 2.5D appears to be a smartphone with a full-metal body while only the frame is made of metal. It feels sturdy, but it is not easy to use with one hand due to the 5.5-inch display. We found it difficult to reach the notification shade with one hand while using the Mega 2.5D. Apart from this, since the edges are not curved, it feels very sharp in the hands. The weight of 140 grams is low considering its size.

The pixel density of the 5.5-inch HD (720×1280 pixels) IPS display is 294 ppi. As is clear from the name, its front part has 2.5D curved glass. During use, we found that its display was sharp but the black levels were not very good. Viewing angles were fine.

In the short time we spent with the Coolpad Mega 2.5D, we found that images taken from the rear camera were crisp in suitable lighting. However, some of them lacked details. The pictures taken from the front camera were vibrant. In low light, pictures taken from the front camera were better than those from the rear camera. However, these were also a bit blurry and the lack of detail was clearly visible. You will have to wait for our review for the camera performance.
