Lenovo India Smartphone Director Sudhin Mathur pressed us for several questions related to the Vibe K5 Plus. According to him, after the acquisition of Motorola, the company is using the name ‘Vibe’ keeping in mind its branding strategy. Lenovo had announced in January that in 2016, the company will launch a top feature smartphone called Moto and a budget handset called Vibe.
Vibe K5 Plus may be made of plastic body but it gives a metal look. Vibe K5 Plus will be available in Champagne Gold, Platinum Silver and Graphite Gray color variants. The unit we used was in platinum silver color.
Vibe K5 Plus with 5 inch screen easily fits in the hand and you can operate the phone conveniently with one hand. The front of the phone has a camera, earpiece and sensors above the display. There are capacitive buttons at the bottom of the display. There is a large Lenovo logo at the bottom of the rear panel while the camera is placed at the top right corner with LED flash. Stereo speakers are also provided on the rear panel with Dolby Atmos.
The physical power and volume buttons of the Vibe K5 Plus are on the right side while the charging and headphone sockets are on the top. There are no ports or buttons on the bottom and left side.
The back part of the phone can be separated from which the 2750 mAh battery provided in the phone can also be removed. The phone has two micro-SIM slots and a microSD card slot for expandable storage. What makes it better is that the phone doesn’t come with a hybrid slot (choose between a second SIM or a microSD card).
The smartphone has a 64-bit octa-core Qualcomm 616 processor and Adreno 405 GPU. RAM is 2 GB. The smartphone has 16 GB storage which can be expanded up to 128 GB with the help of microSD card. Multitasking and app switching can be done without any hassle in Vibe K5 Plus. However, we cannot give a complete verdict about Vibe K5 Plus until we review it in detail.
There is support for 4G LTE band in the smartphone. Other connectivity features include Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.1, Micro-USB 2.0, and FM radio.
Talking about the camera, the phone has a 13-megapixel rear camera with LED flash and F2.2 aperture. For selfie lovers, there is a 5 megapixel front camera with F2.2 aperture. In our brief camera test, photos taken indoors with the Vibe K5 Plus looked fine. Front camera can also take good pictures.
The Lenovo Vibe K5 Plus smartphone sports a five-inch IPS LCD Full HD display (1080×1920 pixels) with Vibe UI on top, making it look a bit like the Lenovo Vibe K4 Note. Many apps come pre-installed in smartphones with an app called Theme Center.
Like the Vibe K4 Note, the Vibe K5 Plus also comes with Theater Max VR technology. Customers will have to purchase VR headset separately.
Lenovo Vibe K5 Plus has been launched by the company in the less than Rs 10,000 category at a price of Rs 8,499. In this category, the phone will face tough competition from Coolpad Note 3 equipped with fingerprint sensor priced at Rs 8,999, Meizu M2 Note (Rs 9,999) and Yu Yureka Plus (Rs 8,999).
Vibe K5 Plus can be purchased exclusively on online shopping website Flipkart from 12 noon on March 23. There will be no need for any registration for this sale. During the first sale, there will also be an exclusive exchange and upgrade offer for existing Lenovo A6000 and A6000 Plus users.
