Global sea level increased 1 million olympic pools NASA analysis full report

Global warming, rapidly melting Arctic and other reasons are increasing the sea level around the world. A report states that from 2021 to 2022, an average increase of 0.11 inches (0.27 centimeters) was observed in the global sea level. This is enough water to fill 1 million Olympic size swimming pools every day for a year. American space agency NASA has made this assessment on the basis of satellite data.

NASA’s Report According to , observations of sea surface height were started in 1993. According to NASA’s Sea Level Change Science Team, sea level rise has been recorded so far by 3.6 inches (9.1 centimeters). Researchers’ data shows that global sea level rise was 0.08 inches (.20 centimeters) per year in 1993, which has increased to 0.17 inches (0.44 centimeters) per year in 2022. Accordingly, by the year 2050, global sea level is expected to reach 0.26 inches (0.66 cm) per year.

These figures indicate that sea levels are rising around the world and cities located near them are at risk. Last year, in a study, NASA had said that America’s coastline could sink up to one foot in the next 20-25 years. Among these coasts, some areas like the Gulf Coast, South East Coast and South West were mentioned i.e. areas like San Francisco, New York, Los Angeles and Virginia are going to face major tragedy of sea water. It was said in the study that America’s coasts will be covered with water in the coming 30 years.

A similar estimate can be made for other countries too, whose cities are situated near the sea coasts. NASA uses two satellites to collect its data. They will continue collecting information till the year 2030. Apart from NASA, the World Meteorological Organization has also expressed the danger of sea level rise due to global warming. According to him, between 2013 and 2021 the sea level has increased by 4.5mm every year.
