Google Doodle celebrate 204th birthday American scientist Eunice Newton Foote discovered green house effect know more
Google’s AccordingEunice Newton Foote was born on July 17, 1819 in Connecticut. She attended Troy Female Seminary, a school that encouraged students to attend science lectures and participate in chemistry labs. In this way, science and its related discoveries became an integral part of Foote’s life. Apart from this, she also worked a lot for women’s rights. She attended the first Women’s Rights Convention in Sinesa Falls in 1848.
This is the time when women had nothing to do with science, and they were not considered worthy of science and the discoveries made in it. Foote placed mercury thermometers inside glass cylinders and discovered that the cylinder containing carbon dioxide heated the most in sunlight. That means, the more carbon dioxide, the more heat.
Today, this same discovery is telling about global warming, how continuous carbon emissions are heating the earth twice as fast, and the catastrophic consequences of climate change are being seen in every corner of the world. After this discovery, Foote also discovered atmospheric static electricity. These were the first two discoveries in America that were made by a female scientist. In 1856, her work was presented to the American Association for the Advancement of Science by a male scientist. After that, many more experiments were done on the green house and it was known how carbon dioxide traps the sun’s heat on the earth and is increasing the temperature of the earth.
