Google Find My Device Network Launched for Android Know How to Use

Google launched its Find My Device network for Android devices on Monday, April 8. The tech giant first announced this feature last year, but it took time to arrive. This feature uses a crowdsourced network of all Android users to locate lost smartphones and accessories. This feature works similarly to the Find My app on the iPhone. Eric Kay, VP of engineering at Google, announced the feature in a blog post. Said “Today the new Find My feature is rolling out to Android devices around the world, starting with the US and Canada. With a new crowdsourced network of over a billion Android devices, Find My Device can help users quickly locate lost Android devices and everyday essentials.

The most important thing about the network is that it can detect devices even when they are offline. This means that a smartphone or accessory does not need to be connected to the internet to track it. Apart from this, Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro users will be able to find their devices even when the power is off or the battery is drained. This can prove to be very important in case any device is stolen. The Find My Device network comes with a Find Nirbai button that can help find the exact location of a smartphone or accessories.

Google said the Find My Device network capability will also support Chipolo and Pebblebee’s Bluetooth tracker tags on the network and track their location. These tags can be attached to daily essential items like keys, purse or bag etc. This feature will be started from May. Bluetooth tags from Eufy, Motorola and Jio will also arrive later this year.

Additionally, the network will be integrated with Google Nest and the Android feature will show the lost device’s proximity to the Nest device to provide a reference point. Users can share any accessory with family and friends, so everyone can keep track of their location. Using Bluetooth tags, users can share a house key or TV remote with their family and all members can search for that item simultaneously.

Focus has also been placed on privacy and data protection. Google said that multi-layer protection is built into the network to keep personal information private. Find My Device comes with end-to-end encryption of network location data and a device location reporting feature that prevents unnecessary tracking of devices. The app will work with devices running Android 9 or later.
