How to mute mention notifications on WhatsApp

WhatsApp has given the option to mute notifications in individual chats and group messages forever since October last year. But this option is not useful when you are mentioned by someone in the group for whom you have already muted the notifications of that group. In such a case, you will keep getting notifications. This is not technically a flaw but sometimes you may get annoyed by it. Especially when many members start replying to your old message.
However, you can also mute such notifications using a method suggested by WABetaInfo.

How to mute mention notifications on WhatsApp

You can mute notifications for such messages on both Android and iOS platforms. This also works for WhatsApp Web or its desktop client. For this, you have to mute notifications for that group member who is mentioning you while replying to one of your old messages.

So to mute notifications for that particular person, you have to go to his/her WhatsApp profile. After that, tap on his/her name. Then find the option of Mute notifications there. It may ask as Mute for Android and Mute for iOS. Here, to mute the notifications, you can choose one of the options from 8 hours, one week or forever.

This is useful when you don’t want to leave a group but at the same time you want to mute notifications when someone mentions you.
WABetaInfo report According to this, this workaround will work even when WhatsApp implements multi-device support. Then it can essentially sync the rules across all devices.
