Hydrogen Powered Tran Test Run Successful in China 1000 Km Range Claimed All Details

China has successfully tested its first hydrogen-powered train. This domestically developed technology was tested on Thursday last week. Like India, China has also been struggling with the problem of air pollution, in such a situation hydrogen-powered trains can prove to be an important step towards clean urban transportation. The train runs on a hydrogen energy propulsion system, which, according to test data, consumes an average energy of only 5 kilowatt-hours per kilometer. This is a very good number in terms of energy efficiency.

CGTN’s according toThis trial run of the hydrogen-powered train took place in Changchun, Jilin province on Thursday morning. This technology has been developed by CRRC Changchun Railway Vehicle. During its successful test run the train achieved a speed of 160 kilometers per hour when fully loaded. The train boasts of an impressive driving range of over 1,000 kilometres, significantly reducing the need to stop for refuelling.

Before the test run, the hydrogen power system had to undergo tests for durability, performance in extreme temperatures (from -25 °C to 35 °C), vibration resistance, electromagnetic compatibility and fire safety.

This successful test is a major milestone for China’s rail transit. In India too, the focus is now on this technology for transportation, especially for cars like four-wheelers. Toyota has already showcased one of its cars at the global level, which is capable of covering long distances by taking power from hydrogen.
