I wish WhatsApp had these eight features too

More than 16 crore people are using WhatsApp in India. WhatsApp is a useful tool. Most importantly, its need is high because almost everyone knows how to use WhatsApp. Video calling has been introduced in WhatsApp and it is believed that users will like this feature a lot.

WhatsApp recently added features like video calling, writing on photos and videos, mentions in group chats, quote replies, etc. It is clear that these features of WhatsApp are copies of features of other popular apps like Telegram, Snapchat and Skype. Know about eight other features that we all want to see in WhatsApp and which are present in other popular apps.

1) Download media as per your choice
WhatsApp currently has a global setting for automatic downloading of media such as photos, videos, audio and documents, whether they are sent to a group or a single user. Everyone knows that media downloads should be disabled on mobile data so that your internet data is not wasted. Apart from this, it can also be advised to disable media downloads completely to avoid filling up the phone’s internal storage with useless media files. But due to this, files from selected people from whom we want to download files are not downloaded. And these files are downloaded only when we click on them. A feature with more control over media with auto download for different people and groups is probably what every WhatsApp user wants.

2) Separate tabs for chats with groups and single users
Although WhatsApp is a platform for informal conversations, many important conversations are also held here due to its unique and special features. Apart from this, many of us chat with office colleagues on WhatsApp. Many times when you open WhatsApp, you see many messages in these groups at the top. If you want to check every chat window one by one, then you will have to see all these groups.

If you want to have a view in WhatsApp that makes it easier to follow a conversation between two people, then the way to do this is to separate the chat tabs for group conversations and one-to-one conversations with users.

3) Direct login from desktop (no phone connection required)
It was really great to have WhatsApp on desktop instead of the hassle of looking between phone and desktop for every message received. But it is not very convenient to use. To use WhatsApp on desktop, phone and internet connection must be on. Sometimes this is not convenient at all. Like if your phone is not charged and you want to reply to someone on WhatsApp from computer. Whereas Telegram or Facebook’s own messaging app works completely differently on desktop and phone.

4) Do not join groups without checking
Friends and relatives have a habit of adding us to groups even if we don’t want to join them. And these messages include nano-GPS rumors, jokes and forwarded messages. You can block a user on WhatsApp but not a group. So, you can spam people in groups who have blocked you. There should be a feature to choose whether we want to join a group or not. This feature can be like friend request on Facebook.

5) Migrate Chat Backup between Android and iPhone
Do you also fear that if you ever switch between Android and iPhone, your WhatsApp chats will be deleted? On iOS, WhatsApp only has a backup of those chats that are present on Apple’s device-exclusive iCloud. Whereas on Android, Google Drive is used. Google Drive service is also available on iOS, but iOS users cannot restore their chats from there. Apps like Telegram keep their encrypted backups service which makes it easy to switch between different platforms. But it seems that WhatsApp does not want all the chats and media in the world on its servers. But we think that there should at least be a way for chat migration between the world’s two largest OS mobile platforms.

6) Audio conference
WhatsApp launched the voice calling feature in March last year. And now we think it’s time to add audio call conferencing feature to WhatsApp. This will not only help WhatsApp users but also their friends to connect easily. This will also benefit businesses, especially those who conduct weekly conference calls.

7) Message queue feature when connectivity is not available on iOS
The inability to queue messages has been a problem for iOS users for years. And it seems strange that the company has not yet solved this problem. In case of no network on the iPhone (like in an elevator or airplane), the message cannot be written or queued. So that it is automatically delivered when the phone is connected to the internet again. It does not seem that there is any technical problem on iOS because Facebook Messenger works fine.

8) Encrypted cloud backup
WhatsApp provides end-to-end encryption for chats. But chat backup is not encrypted. If you take a backup of a conversation on iCloud or Google Drive, then it is not encrypted. Which means that anyone can take advantage of the message if they see it. Getting an encrypted backup will solve this problem.
