IIT Job Crisis 8000 Students Unplaced 2024 Amid Rising Unemployment
Under the Right to Information Act, Dheeraj Singh, a former student of IIT Kanpur, shared the data. exposure Have done. According to which this year about 8000 students did not get placement in 23 campuses of IIT. 21,500 students had registered for placements for 2024. Out of which only 13,410 students got jobs. Of these, 38 percent remained without a job and are still looking for employment.
In the last two years, there has been a significant increase in the number of unemployed IIT students. Till two years ago, there were only 3400 students who could not get placements. That means about 19 percent of IIT students did not get placement. But now 38% are facing unemployment. 16,400 students had registered in the old 9 institutes of IIT, out of which 6,050 students i.e. 37% did not get jobs.
At the same time, the situation looks worse in the 14 new institutes of IIT. Of these, 5,100 students had registered. Out of which 2,040 (40%) could not get placement. IIT Kanpur alumnus and consultant Dheeraj Singh has shared this data on LinkedIn. Dheeraj has written that 33 percent students in IIT Kharagpur did not get jobs through placement. Students are living in stress, trouble, and despair.
22 percent students did not get jobs in IIT Delhi in the last 5 years. This number is said to be 40 percent in 2024. The reply to RTI revealed that 600 students remained unemployed in IIT Delhi in the last two years.
Due to this fight over placement, the mental condition of the students is deteriorating. This year 6 IIT students have committed suicide. Which shows how much stress the students are under and how much trouble they are living in. It has been said that 61 percent of the post graduate students of the institutes are still unemployed. These figures of the country’s top engineering institutes are quite worrying. There is a need to bring some solution and suggestion for this soon.
