IIT ROORKEE DATA LEAK 30000 Students Alumni Personal Financial Caste Details Exped Know More

A major data security lapse related to IIT ROORKEE has been revealed, in which more than 30,000 current and private information of alumni leaked online. According to reports, this leak includes mobile numbers, financial details and even caste related information. This data was allegedly exposed on a public website for many years, which has raised serious questions about cyber security and privacy. Now IIT ROORKEE has started investigating the incident, but at the moment it is not clear how and when the data was available in the public domain.

Toi ki Report It has been revealed that the leaked data may be associated with any internal academic record system of the institute, in which security controls were not sufficient. Exposed details include sensitive information like name, mobile number, email ID, address, financial transaction data and category (SC/ST/OBC/General). Cyber experts say that such data can be used in cases like fraud, fishing and identity theft.

The report states that this data could have been accessed without password protection for many years. Meaning, whoever got the link could have downloaded it. Currently, IIT ROORKEE has blocked that access and has started internal security audit.

This is not the first time in India that the data of a big educational institution has been leaked. In the last few years, many universities and education platforms have fallen victim to similar breeches. However, the scale of leaked data in the case of IIT ROORKEE and the details involved make it even more serious.

Cyber Security Experts say that institutions should protect their database from regular security test and encryption, otherwise such breech will threaten students and the privacy of alumni.
