Counterpoint New Report: Counterpoint Research’s latest report states that India’s smartphone shipments have declined after registering growth in the first quarter of 2024. The country’s smartphone shipments declined by 2 percent year-on-year (YoY) in the second quarter (April-June) of 2024. There are many reasons for this decline, of which heatwave and slow demand are considered the main ones. Xiaomi is on top in terms of shipments. It has left Vivo behind. The reason behind Xiaomi coming on top is its portfolio. The company is offering devices ranging from entry level smartphones to premium segment.

Compared with the second quarter of 2023, Xiaomi’s shipment in 2024 (April-June) was 18.9 percent, which was 15 percent during this period last year. Vivo is at number two. Its shipment stood at 18.8 percent, which was 17.4 percent during this period last year. Samsung is at number three. The company’s shipment is 18.1 percent, which was 18.4 percent during this period last year. The fourth and fifth numbers in the list are of Realme and Oppo. 20.5 percent of the shipments were in the name of others, which includes the remaining brands.

Samsung on top in brand value

Talking about brand value, Samsung is at the top position. It has captured 24.5 percent of the market. The company’s ultra-premium segment has registered a year-on-year growth of 99 percent in this quarter. In terms of brand value, Vivo has got the second place and Apple has got the third place. Xiaomi is at fourth place and Oppo is at fifth place.

77% of total shipments are 5G phones

The report said that 5G smartphone shipments will reach 77 percent of the total market share in the second quarter of 2024. The main reason for this is the decline in the prices of 5G smartphones, which has inspired people to buy 5G devices.

Poco, Motorola also benefit!

Results for the second quarter of 2024 show that Motorola has seen year on year growth of 88 percent. Xiaomi’s sub-brand Poco has registered a year on year growth of 318 percent in the Rs 10,000 to Rs 15,000 segment. There are not many good results for Realme. Its year on year growth is 2 percent.

When it comes to processors installed in smartphones, MediaTek is at the forefront. Its market share is 54 percent. Qualcomm is ahead in the premium segment.
