Indians Exposed to 12 Fake Messages Daily Scammers Using Artificial Intelligence to Make Them Legit All details
Releasing its first global scam message study, McAfee has informed that artificial intelligence has become the favorite tool of scammers nowadays, which helps cybercriminals to increase the scale of scam messages. Phishing and text message scams are increasing rapidly and according to the study, a new phishing site is being created every 11 seconds.
This study shows that Indians receive about 12 fake messages or scams daily via email, text or social media. An average Indian user spends 1.8 hours a week reviewing, verifying or deciding whether a message sent via text, email or social media is real or fake.
The report also reveals that 82 per cent of Indians have clicked on or fallen for a fake message. 49 per cent of Indians said that scam messages no longer contain typos or mistakes, making them harder to spot.
According to McAfee, some of the most common forms of these scam messages are fake job offers or notifications (64%) and bank alerts (52%).
How to Protect Yourself from Scam Messages
McAfee says users should think carefully before clicking on such messages. Cybercriminals use phishing emails or fake sites to entice people to click on links that may contain malware.
If you receive an email asking you to click on a link, even if it claims to offer a great deal or useful information, it’s best not to click on it. Always go straight to the source and interact with reputable companies.
Pause before rushing to interact with any threatening or urgent messages, especially if it’s from an unknown or unlikely sender.
