Today, knowingly or unknowingly the iPhone has become a status symbol. Many people associate it with class, as it was said in an Apple advertisement – If You Don’t Have An iPhone, You Don’t Have An iPhone. (If you don’t have an iPhone, you don’t have an iPhone). It is also a fact that for most users, the reason behind being attracted towards the iPhone was its price. The high price first shocked everyone, then attracted everyone. Initially people started using it as a status symbol and gradually common users also started trying to get it. Meanwhile, users also started realizing that the price of iPhone is a bit high. Its effect was also visible on the company’s sales. Apple has not been successful in expanding its presence in the Indian market as fast as it would have expected. On the other hand, the popularity of the screen size of iPhone 5S also continued. Keeping all these things in mind, the company decided to introduce a ‘budget’ or ‘cheap’ iPhone with a 4-inch display. With the help of this handset, will the company be successful in making inroads in an emerging market like India? This will become clear in the future. But if we keep in mind the parameters like price, specification and value for money, then iPhone SE seems to miss in many respects.

Before forming any opinion about the merits and demerits of the handset, there are a few things you need to know. The price of 16 GB variant of iPhone SE in India is Rs 39,000. The price of 64 GB variant is not known yet. It will be available in India from April 8.

Price: Your pocket will still be tight
Rs 39,000. This is the price of Apple’s cheapest iPhone till date. Leave aside the budget, it will not even be considered in the mid-range segment in the Indian market. If cashback or exchange offers are not available, then for any user, spending so much money is equivalent to shelling out money for a premium segment handset. Keep in mind that we are talking about the 16 GB variant. If we consider the difference in prices of different storage variants of Apple’s old iPhone models, then the price of 64 GB variant of iPhone SE should be Rs 49,000. It is clear that the prices do not excite much. The truth is that this has turned out to be the most disappointing aspect of the product since its launch.

Specifications: Old wine in a new bottle
When you spend so much money for a gadget, you will definitely expect some new features. But that’s not going to happen. The company has already made it clear that most of its specifications are those of iPhone 6S. And the flagship feature of iPhone 6S model is not even 3D touch display. Looking at the processor, camera, design and other features, it can be said that iPhone SE is nothing more than ‘old wine in a new bottle’. Yes, if you have never used an iPhone then everything is new for you. But it is also worth noting that today the iPhone 6S handset (16 GB + Space Grey) with 4.7 inch display is available on Amazon’s site for around Rs 40,900. That means by spending just Rs 2,000 more, you can get a bigger screen, 3D touch display, and many other features.

Storage: What will happen in this time?
Any iPhone user would suggest that no matter what, don’t buy the 16 GB variant. That means the 64 GB variant of iPhone SE remains the only option. The biggest drawback of iPhone is the lack of support for microSD card. Most Android handsets in this price range come with 32 GB storage. If you are one of those users who like to install two or three powerful games and store a music library on the handset, then you have no other option but to spend around Rs 49,000 more.

Screen: Bigger is better in India
While launching the iPhone SE, Apple had said that it had sold more than 30 million 4-inch iPhone models in 2015. But the situation of the Indian market reveals a different reality. 46 percent of smartphones sold in India have screens 5 inches or larger. And if you have ever used a screen size of 5 inches or larger, then using a 4 inch phone will not be easy. To be honest, it would seem very awkward. Typing on a small screen will become a problem. You won’t enjoy playing games or watching videos as much. However, due to reduction in screen size the phone definitely becomes compact but it will definitely affect the user experience.
