Design and display
As is obvious, the iPhone SE looks exactly like the iPhone 5S. If our review unit wasn’t rose gold in color, we could have easily mistaken it for the iPhone launched in 2013. We’re not fans of the antenna lines seen on larger iPhones, so the iPhone SE is a nice vintage design iPhone without any complaints.
The iPhone SE can be easily used with one hand on each side of the screen. But if someone uses iPhone SE after using iPhone 6S Plus as his primary phone, then initially it seems a bit difficult to type with the small screen but soon you will get used to it with the help of autocorrect of iOS. Weighing only 113 grams with a smaller screen, iPhone SE feels very light in hand and can easily fit in your pocket.
Like the iPhone 5S, the display of the 4-inch screen iPhone is not HD but you will never feel like it while using the device. Text on the phone looks sharp and the display is quite bright. We did not face any problem while using the phone even in sunlight. But if you watch too much video on the phone, you will not be able to get a great experience on the small screen.
performance
The iPhone SE also has the Apple A9 chipset that is used in the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus. The phone has 2 GB RAM, however, no information about this has been given on Apple’s website. As expected, we were able to operate everything quite smoothly on the phone. In low network areas, the iPhone SE performed better than the iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus, but apart from this, the overall performance of the phone is the same as the iPhone 6S.
There are some big differences in iPhone SE like 3D touch is not provided in iPhone SE, due to which the user will not be able to enjoy things like quick action and peek-pop. During the review of iPhone 6S and 5S Plus, we had described 3D Touch as a technology with immense potential.
The iPhone SE comes with slow Touch ID which may be a problem for some people but we think it is a good feature. The fingerprint scanner given in the phone is quite good and works fast. Barometer is also not provided in iPhone SE. The barometer feature was available in the iPhone 6 and subsequent models.
The biggest difference that users will feel is the 1.2 megapixel front camera (FaceTime camera) given in iPhone SE which comes with F/2.4 aperture. Whereas iPhone 6S had a 5 megapixel camera equipped with F/2.2 aperture. As expected, you’ll get less detailed photos than the iPhone SE. However, you will feel this difference only if you zoom the pictures on a larger screen. The camera supports retina flash. This is our favorite feature of the iPhone SE. Apart from this, iPhone SE will also support live photos.
Talking about the rear camera performance of iPhone SE, most of the time you will get good camera reproduction in all types of lighting. But in low light the phone does not perform as well as the recently launched Samsung’s older and latest flagship smartphone Galaxy S7.
Like its previous generation phone, the iPhone SE comes with a base variant of 16 GB storage, which is not ideal but considering the target audience of the phone and Apple’s current smartphones, it can be compromised. Expect this to be the last iPhone launched by iPhone with 16GB storage.
In our battery loop test, the iPhone SE was able to watch videos continuously for 12 hours, which is 20 percent more than the iPhone 6S. One reason for which can be considered to be the small and low resolution display of the iPhone SE. However, for general use, we did not find much difference in iPhone SE from 6S. iPhone SE can be used for a day without charging.
our decision
The price of iPhone SE in India has been kept at Rs 39,000, which is by no means a price that will suddenly increase the number of iPhone users. But according to the Indian market, this iPhone product can be considered important.
Leaving aside the front camera of the phone, the iPhone SE is a complete package and it has everything that is expected from an Apple product. The iPhone SE is a better phone in every way than the iPhone 6S, which has been introduced with a smaller screen size.
If you are thinking of buying a phone and your budget is fixed but you do not care about the brand, then Samsung Galaxy S6 is available at the price of iPhone SE. Galaxy S6 has been the most liked smartphone launched last year.
