ISRO Aditya L1 Mission: ‘India’s Surya Namaskar’ is about to be completed in space. Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO)’s first space-based solar observatory ‘Aditya L-1’ will reach its target tomorrow. This ISRO satellite will enter its designated orbit at 4 pm on January 6. ‘Aditya L-1’ mission was launched on September 2 last year. Since then it has covered a winding distance of 37 lakh kilometers. ISRO says that the condition of Aditya spacecraft is better. It has started taking pictures of the Sun even before reaching its target.

L1 point is Aditya’s final destination

Aditya-L-1 will study the Sun around the Sun-Earth’s first Lagrangian point (L1), about 15 lakh kilometers from Earth. This distance may seem very large to you, but it is only 1 percent of the total distance between the Earth and the Sun. The L1 point is a place with balanced gravity between the Earth and the Sun, which space agencies also call ‘parking’.

Why did ISRO choose L1 point only?

This is a point from where the sun can always be kept an eye on. When the mission starts its work, ISRO will be able to know solar activities in real time. Aditya Spacecraft has taken with it 7 scientific instruments. All are indigenous and prepared by various departments of India. With the help of instruments, different parts of the Sun will be studied.

Photo of sun was taken last month

While reaching the destination last month, Aditya spacecraft had captured a full disk image of the Sun. The spacecraft captured the Sun on camera in a way that had not been done before. That photo was in near ultraviolet wavelength. The photosphere and chromosphere of the Sun could be seen in the photo.
