Well, unlike Xiaomi Mi A1 (Review), Lenovo K8 Plus is not a part of the Android One family. But the experience of using it is almost the same. Is this the only interesting feature in Lenovo K8 Plus? Let us know.
Lenovo K8 Plus design
If you’ve used a Lenovo smartphone recently, the K8 Plus will look very familiar. Like other options available in the market, Lenovo K8 Plus has a metal body. At first glance the size of the phone will catch your attention. It is a bridge between the Lenovo K8 and the Lenovo K8 Note. It is designed to be used with one hand. The phone has a 5.2 inch full HD display. Capacitive Android navigation buttons are below the display. Lenovo has used non-backlit navigation buttons in this phone. There is difficulty in finding these buttons in the dark.
The power and volume buttons are on the right side. The texture of the power button is slightly different, so it is easily identified. On the other side, there is a physical music button. It can also be used to play or pause songs, or to change songs. The good thing is that this button can also be customized to take a screenshot or launch a specific app.
The Lenovo K8 Plus is a dual SIM device and the SIM tray is located on the left side. You will get 2 slots for Nano SIM and there is a separate slot for microSD card.
On the back side, K8 Plus has two rear cameras. The cameras come with dual-tone LED flash. The fingerprint sensor has been placed below the camera. It is easy to reach. The response is also good and we never faced any problem in unlocking the phone. The metal back easily gets fingerprints. These were clearly visible on our Venom Black review unit. There is a micro-USB port at the bottom of the phone. There are speaker grills on both sides. The 3.5 mm headphone socket has got a place at the top.
Lenovo K8 Plus is a bit thick. The thickness is 8.99 mm and weight is 165 grams. Some people may find it a bit bulky. The reason for this could be the large 4000 mAh battery.
Specifications and software of Lenovo K8 Plus
Lenovo K8 Plus has a 5.2-inch full-HD display. The protection of Corning Gorilla Glass 3 is available on it. Viewing angles are good. Color reproduction is also fine. If you want punchy contrast, you have the option to switch the display’s color mode. The brightness is sufficient for indoors, but you will have difficulty reading anything on the screen in sunlight.
Lenovo has used MediaTek Helio P25 octa-core processor with 2.5 GHz clock speed. Lenovo K8 Plus has 4 GB RAM. Storage is 32 GB and you will be able to use a microSD card up to 128 GB.
To remain in trend, Lenovo K8 Plus has been provided with two rear cameras. One camera is of 13 megapixels and the other is of 5 megapixels. The secondary camera in the setup works to measure depth in depth mode. An 8 megapixel sensor is provided on the front panel. It comes with selfie flash. Talking about connectivity, the smartphone has two Nano SIM slots and both support 4G VoLTE. Apart from this you will get Bluetooth and Wi-Fi B/G/N.
Android lovers will be happy to know that the Lenovo K8 Plus runs stock Android Nougat. Now there is no difference between the UI of the company’s Lenovo and Motorola brands. Apart from select Microsoft Office apps, there is no other bloatware on the phone. From Lenovo, you will also get the option to install some apps while setting up the phone. However, there is no promise of future updates like Android One phones.
Lenovo K8 Plus performance, battery life and camera
Lenovo has chosen powerful hardware for the K8 Plus. The results of the benchmark test point in this direction. We received the 4 GB RAM variant for review. It handles multitasking with ease. This phone has so much power that you will not face any problem in working on common apps. We played games like Sniper 3D, Drafty Chase and Clash Royale on this phone. It never slowed down. However, the phone definitely gets hot while playing games for a long time. But this did not spoil our gaming experience.
The battery of the phone is 4000 mAh. Because of this the phone has become a little thick and weighs more. Battery life is good and the phone will last for about one and a half hours in normal use. The battery lasted 13 hours and 49 minutes in our HD video loop test, which is good. This big battery will be fully charged in about 2 hours with the charger provided with the handset.
Lenovo has provided a very basic camera app which is easy to use. HDR and camera mode toggles are easily accessible. You will get panorama and professional modes. You will be able to record videos in 1080p resolution with both cameras at 30 frames per second.
Landscape photos taken with the K8 Plus turned out fine. But these did not have the sharpness as per our expectation. In daylight, pictures taken in HDR mode look a bit strange. Sometimes good pictures come and sometimes bad ones. Night time shots were good. The camera is successful in controlling noise in low light. Macro shots turned out quite good. The camera captured detailed images in both daylight and low-light conditions.
Depth mode can be enabled easily. The difference between the background and the subject is clearly visible in the output. However, we found that the camera slows down a bit after taking a few photos. The 8 megapixel front camera has beautify feature. It can be used manually or in auto mode. The pictures taken from the front camera were of good quality. You will be able to use them on messengers and social networking sites without any hesitation. Front flash proves to be a useful feature in dark areas.

Lenovo sought to gain popularity by choosing stock Android and striking a balance between features and price. The Lenovo K8 Plus is a capable handset and performs well in daily use. Battery life is strong. You will be able to use it for more than a day without charging. There is enough storage for a common user. The good thing is that you get a separate slot for the microSD card, no need to compromise with the second SIM card. Apart from this, the feature of two rear cameras is attracting the attention of the customers today. Camera performance could be better in landscape mode, but it also has to be remembered that this is a budget phone. If stock Android experience and good battery life is your priority then Lenovo K8 Plus is a good option.
