M Class Solar Flare exploded from Sun caused Radio Blackout in America
Spaceweather.com according toshortwave radio blackouts disrupted communications between ham radio operators and mariners. In the last one and a half year, the activities taking place in the Sun have increased. American space agency NASA says that the Sun is going through its 11-year cycle and is in a very active phase. Because of this, explosions will continue in the Sun till 2025.
Every 11 years a new solar cycle begins. During this period the Sun becomes very active. Explosions can be seen in it. During this period, coronal mass ejections and solar flares are emitted from the Sun. If their direction is towards the Earth, then geomagnetic storms occur on our planet, which can affect satellites and the power grid on Earth. The incident that happened on Sunday could also be a result of this.
NASA’s Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO) monitors these events and alerts us. Talking about solar flares, when the Sun’s magnetic energy is released, the light and particles emanating from it create solar flares. These flares are the most powerful explosions ever seen in our solar system, releasing energy comparable to billions of hydrogen bombs.
What is a sunspot?
A sunspot is a dark area on the Sun that is visible due to its magnetism. Sunspots can last from a few hours to a few months. Not all sunspots cause solar flares, but when they do, the effects can be felt all the way to Earth. Apart from this, the Sun itself also releases many flares into space.
