Mahindra Retains its Position of Largest SUV Maker, Scorpio-N Getting Strong Demand

The company’s profit has increased by more than 30 percent in the third quarter. Mahindra’s profit after tax increased by 60.6 percent to about Rs 2,454 crore. In the same quarter of the last financial year, the company had achieved a profit of about Rs 1,984 crore. Mahindra’s market share in terms of revenue in the SUV segment was 21 percent. Apart from Scorpio-N and Scorpio Classic, it sells XUV700, XUV300, Thar, Bolero, Bolero Neo and XUV400 EV in this segment. More than one lakh bookings for its Scorpio-N and Scorpio Classic are pending. The company receives bookings of around 16,000 units every month for these two SUVs.
Mahindra has increased the production of Scorpio-N and Scorpio Classic due to which their waiting period has reduced. Scorpio N prices range between Rs 13.26 lakh to Rs 24.54 lakh. It has options of 6 seater or 7 seater. The Scorpio-N is made available in five variants – Z2, Z4, Z6, Z8 and Z8L. All these variants are available in both petrol and diesel options. This SUV is available in 2.0 liter turbocharged petrol engine and 2.2 liter diesel engine options. Its petrol engine generates maximum power of 197 bhp and peak torque of 380 Nm.
Last year the company launched the electric SUV XUV400. Its range on a single charge is a little more than 450 kilometers. The XUV400 competes with MG’s ZS EV and Tata Motors’ Nexon EV. It has two variants – EC and EL. It has features like electronic stability program, tire pressure monitoring, cruise control and fog lamps. Sales of electric vehicles in the country have increased rapidly in the last few years. Many automobile companies are launching their new models in this segment. Mahindra also plans to launch some new electric vehicles. In this market the company competes with Tata Motors.
