Maruti Suzuki Registers Record Rs 3,878 Crore Profit in Fourth Quarter, SUV Getting Strong Demand

The country’s largest car maker Maruti Suzuki has achieved record profit in the fourth quarter of the last financial year. The company is getting strong demand for Sports Utility Vehicles (SUV). Apart from this, its margin has increased due to some reduction in manufacturing cost.

Maruti Suzuki’s consolidated net profit in the January-March quarter increased 47.8 percent year-on-year to Rs 3,877.8 crore. It was Rs 2,623.6 crore in the same period last year. Its sales increased by 13.4 percent in the fourth quarter. Japan’s Suzuki Motor Corporation holds 58.19 percent stake in the company. In the last financial year, Maruti Suzuki’s net profit increased by almost 64 percent to Rs 13,209.4 crore. Its sales have increased by about 20 percent.

The total manufacturing of Maruti Suzuki has crossed three crore units. The company started manufacturing in the country in December 1983. It has manufacturing plants in Gurugram and Manesar in Haryana and Hansalpur in Gujarat. The company had manufactured 10 lakh units in 1994. After this, in April 2005 it reached the manufacturing of one crore units. Maruti Suzuki has manufactured more than 2.68 crore units at its plants in Haryana and more than 32 lakh units in Gujarat. Maruti 800 has played a major role in taking the company to this achievement. More than 29 lakh units have been sold. Maruti Suzuki started exports in 1987.

Maruti Suzuki’s sales in the last financial year have been more than 20 lakh units. This is its best seller. Other successful models of the company include Alto 800, Alto K10, Swift, Wagon R, Dzire, Omni, Baleno, Eeco, Brezza and Ertiga. Maruti Suzuki is preparing to launch updated versions of Swift and Dzire. The company is getting strong demand in SUV and MPV segments. For this, Brezza, Frontx and Grand Vitara are the best selling models. It plans to increase the manufacturing capacity to 40 lakh units in the next few years. For this, two greenfield manufacturing plants are being set up in Haryana and Gujarat.
