Maruti Suzuki Surpasses Manufacturing of 3 Crore Units in 40 years

The total manufacturing of the country’s largest car maker Maruti Suzuki has crossed three crore units. The company started manufacturing in the country in December 1983. It has manufacturing plants in Gurugram and Manesar in Haryana and Hansalpur in Gujarat. The company had manufactured 10 lakh units in 1994. After this, in April 2005 it reached the manufacturing of one crore units.

Maruti Suzuki has manufactured more than 2.68 crore units at its plants in Haryana and more than 32 lakh units in Gujarat. Maruti 800 has played a major role in taking the company to this achievement. More than 29 lakh units have been sold. Its other successful models include Alto 800, Alto K10, Swift, Wagon R, Dzire, Omni, Baleno, Eeco, Brezza and Ertiga. Hisashi Takeuchi, managing director of the company, said, “We are committed to ‘Make in India’. Our contribution to the total exports of vehicles from India is about 40 percent.” Maruti Suzuki started exports in 1987.

In the last financial year, the company has made its highest sales with 17,59,881 units. Its plan is to increase the manufacturing capacity to 40 lakh units in the next year. For this, two greenfield manufacturing plants are being set up in Haryana and Gujarat. Maruti Suzuki’s sales in March increased by 15 percent to more than 1.52 lakh units. It is getting strong demand in the utility vehicle segment. In the last financial year, Maruti Suzuki has made record sales of more than 21 lakh units.

The compact car segment has contributed the most to the company’s sales. In this segment it sells Baleno, Celerio, Dzire, Ignis, Swift and WagonR. In this, Maruti Suzuki’s sales stood at 71,832 units. The company is preparing to launch updated versions of Swift and Dzire. The sales of the company’s SUV and MPV have increased the most by 57 percent. In this segment, the company has sold 58,436 units in March. In the same month last year, this sale was 37,054 units. Brezza, Frontx and Grand Vitara were the best selling models in the SUV segment. There is strong demand for Ertiga and XL6 in the MPV segment.
