Micromax Canvas 6 Pro Review

Micromax recently introduced its new flagship smartphones Canvas 6 and Canvas 6 Pro. In a big launch event held in Gurgaon last month, along with these two smartphones, information about the company’s new logo and branding was also given. Budget smartphone maker Micromax has made tremendous inroads in the Indian smartphone market. Now the company wants to beat its Chinese rivals like Xiaomi and LeEco who have created a lot of disruption in the budget segment on the basis of features, design and price.

Other companies are launching smartphones equipped with high-resolution screens, top CPU, fingerprint sensors and metal bodies at very low prices. Whereas Micromax has presented 4 GB RAM as its trump card. Almost all phones in the sub Rs 10,000 category have only 2 GB RAM. Today we will review Micromax Canvas 6 Pro with 4 GB RAM and know whether this feature of Micromax makes the phone really special or proves the company wrong?

Look and Design
Canvas 6 Pro can be called the best looking phone of Micromax till date. Instead of the poor material used in the company’s old products, good material has been used in this phone. The rear has a matte plastic shell and the edges don’t feel too premium. But the edges of the black glass front make the phone comfortable to hold. Overall the design of the phone looks good and you will be happy with this phone.

The front of the phone is hard but the on-screen buttons provide relief. On the front, the phone has Corning Gorilla Glass 3, front camera and notification LED. There are power and volume buttons on the right side. There is a micro-USB port at the bottom. There is a 3.5 mm audio jack on the top.

The rear of the phone looks like HTC’s older Windows Phone 8 models. The textured rear cover can be removed. There is a rear camera and flash in the middle at the top. Below this is the recently designed new logo of Micromax and at the bottom is the speaker grill.

The battery can be removed from the phone by removing the rear cover. By removing the battery, the microSD card and a Nano-SIM and a Micro-SIM card slot can be seen. When you buy Micromax Canvas 6 Pro, you will get a charger, cable, headset, screen protector and microfiber cloth in the box.

Specifications and Software
Micromax has provided MediaTek Helio X10 processor (MT6795M) running at 2 GHz in its new smartphone at a price of less than Rs 15,000. Apart from this, this phone is in the headlines with 4 GB RAM. The phone has 16 GB storage and can be expanded up to 64 GB via microSD card.

Micromax Canvas 6 Pro has a 5.5 inch screen with 1080×1920 pixel resolution which can be called good for this price. The phone has a 13 megapixel rear camera and 5 megapixel front camera. The phone supports LTE in both SIMs. For connectivity, the phone supports Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.1 and USB-OTG. The phone has a 3000 mAh battery.

This phone does not have features like fingerprint sensor, quick charging, infrared, NFC. Whereas other smartphones of this price now come with these features. It seems that the company is considering 4 GB RAM as a unique feature for Canvas 6 Pro. Perhaps that is why the company has made some compromises in terms of other specifications.

Talking about software, there is something special in the phone. Canvas 6 Pro runs on Android 5.1 on which a custom skin has been given which looks quite like stock Android. All the icons look different but don’t look bad. SwiftKey comes pre-installed and is set as the default keyboard. Apart from this, more than 20 apps like Clean Master, CM Security, CM Locker, multiple shopping apps and browsers and some trial games come pre-loaded. All apps except Micromax’s own App Center, M!Live and M!Account can be uninstalled.

The most special thing is the Around feature of Micromax. First seen in Yu Utopia (Review), this feature is not like an app but in the launcher itself. By swiping the homescreen to the left you will be able to see the around screen. There are a number of category icons and a search bar at the top, while there are Google Now-style cards at the bottom.

performance
Like other Micromax smartphones, the software of this phone does not cause much problem. There is no problem in the hardware of the phone while doing most of the work. Although it is not that it is the most powerful hardware till date, but today mid-range smartphones are also very powerful. It cannot be said whether 4 GB RAM makes a big difference to the phone or not. But we did not face any problem with the phone and there was no problem in switching and opening many apps.

The screen is bright and crisp but the glass reflects a lot which sometimes looks bad. The colors are good and the brightness is also good for use in daylight. Micromax Canvas 6 Pro feels good while using. But the phone gets a little hot during camera use and gaming.

The performance of the phone was good in our benchmarking tests. However, it cannot be called a flagship-killer. The battery lasted 6 hours and 41 minutes in our video loop test, which is disappointing by today’s standards. During normal use, we were able to use the phone for a whole day on a single charge. But if you play games, browse a lot and record videos, you will need to charge the phone till evening.

The phone’s camera is not good at all. Even in good sunlight, pictures come out without detail and scattered. The photos look absolutely fake and sometimes the focus is not even there, making the photos unusable. Even at night, the pictures are blurry and a lot of light is required to get good pictures. The front camera is fine for close-up selfies.

our decision
Micromax has introduced a new brand with Canvas 6 Pro. Canvas 6 Pro is the first phone in the line of smartphones that strengthens the company’s hold in the Indian smartphone market. After the company’s first smartphone, this smartphone is completely different. Simply put, the material and design of this Micromax phone has been changed compared to before. Micromax is thinking about the user.

The performance of the phone is good but it cannot be called brilliant. The phone has shortcomings like poor battery life and heat. A bad camera disappoints the most. Overall, Micromax has introduced only 4 GB RAM as the specialty of the phone in the mid range. This feature will definitely attract customers. Personally, we would have no problem buying a phone with 2GB RAM along with good battery life and other features.
