Nasa DAGGER AI model will give alert 30 minutes before of Solar Storms
NASA Has developed a system powered by Artificial Intelligence. Through this, it can be predicted as to when such incidents will target our planet. However, an alert can be issued only 30 minutes before solar events target the Earth.
In March, the US space agency had told about a computer model named DAGGER (Deep Learning Geomagnetic Perturbation). Research related to this has now come to light. A team of international researchers has conducted this research. The team included experts from NASA, the US Geological Survey and the US Department of Energy. The team is using AI to explore the connection between solar wind and geomagnetic disturbances.
Researchers used a method called deep learning. In this method, the computer detects patterns of connection between the solar wind and geomagnetic disturbances based on previous examples. The team tested the DAGGER model on two geomagnetic storms in August 2011 and March 2015. NASA says that this model can accurately predict solar storms around the world.
The most recent example of the impact of a solar storm was seen in the year 1989. Then there was a power failure in a Canadian city for 12 hours. Due to this, schools and businesses had to be closed. If such incidents happen today, they can affect people on a large scale.
