Daksha has discovered an esteoid between Mars and Jupiter, which he will now name himself. NASA has sought from the student with suggestions as to what to name this asteroid.

Daksha Malik’s interest in space began from the school’s astronomy club, where she learned the original things of Space Science. In 2022, the school gave Malik a chance to join the International Asteroid Discovery Program (IADP). Students participating under the program were allowed to find new asteroids and name them.

Daksha said in a statement to the media, ‘He thought that it would be great if he really search for an asteroid and can name it. Although he did not get the results in the first attempt, but it gave him a glimpse of how NASA scientists identify objects in space. Daksha did not allow his interest to diminish and continued the search. He got the fruit of his determination when NASA confirmed one of his six initial discoveries as an asteroid.

Daksha Malik is among the 6 students of India who have made any such discovery. As far as the name of the name is concerned, Daksha told that he is still thinking. Names like Countdown ‘or’ T-Minus’ are coming as a joke in his mind, but if the guidelines do not allow it, then he can choose a name inspired by Greek mythology for this asteroid.
