Oppo Enco X2 True Wireless Earphones Review: Flagship sound performance in the mid-range

Oppo Enco X2 The price of TWS in India is Rs 10,999. It has a dual driver setup with dynamic planar magnetic drivers, advanced Bluetooth codec support and support from Danish loudspeaker maker Dynaudio. On paper, it has the features that are seen in the larger and premium TWS segment. But does it deliver the value it promises? Let’s find out in this review.

Design and Features of Oppo Enco X2
The design of the Oppo Enco X2 is inspired by its predecessor, the Oppo Enco X. But there are some small changes that differentiate the two models. Some of these changes include the earpieces of the Oppo Enco X2 resembling those of the Apple AirPods Pro, especially the contrast black accents around the inner and outer microphones. Apart from this, like the AirPods Pro, it also has partially Force Touch controls. Even the length of the stems of the earpieces is almost the same.
The Oppo Enco X2 also has a few design elements that make it stand out. The ‘L’ and ‘R’ markings on the earpieces are similar to the cutout casing on the Oppo Enco Air 2 Pro with the microphones placed inside the gaps. There is no Oppo logo on the earpieces. The charging case has a unique Dynaudio badge along with the logo, which is one of the key features of this headset.
The earpieces of the Oppo Enco X2 have Force Touch controls which I found more accurate than the Enco X. They can also be customized with the help of the app. The fit of the earbuds is quite comfortable and with noise isolation, they can be listened to for a long time. In India, the headset comes in two colors – white and black. It has been given IP54 rating for dust and water.
The charging case of Oppo Enco X2 is a bit wide but is slim enough to keep in the pocket. There is a USB Type C port at the bottom. The pairing button is found on the right side. Indicator lights are given below the bottom and lid. It also has Qi wireless charging but for this you have to keep the charging case from the front side in which the Dynaudio logo should be facing upwards. It took me a little time to learn to use it but overall it was not inconvenient.
When it comes to features, the Oppo Enco X2 is quite impressive for the price range. Apart from ANC and app support, it has some interesting features. It uses bone conduction technology and voice pickup is available for microphones. Using it as a recording microphone, Dolby Audio supports binaural recording and there is dual device connectivity as well. The sales package includes a charging cable and three pairs of silicone eartips in different sizes for a customizable fit.
Oppo Enco X2 apps and specifications
The Enco X2 wireless headset works with the HeyMelody app. The app is available on both platforms, Android and iOS. When used with select Oppo and OnePlus devices, the Enco X2 does not require any app as all the app-based settings are available in the Bluetooth settings itself.
Talking about myself, I used the app to connect with my iPhone. OnePlus 9 Pro When I used it with a Bluetooth, I was able to access the basic settings on the Oppo Enco X2 through the phone. It had all the settings that are available in the app. In fact, I would say that the settings were more clearly laid out in the Bluetooth settings itself.
Talking about the functions, it has three modes for intensity, ANC, transparency mode, sound customization, dual connection and customization of controls. Single functions can be accessed with a single, double or triple squeeze on each earpiece. Apart from this, side gestures can also be used.

A setup can be created to control playback and volume, activate the voice assistant, and toggle between ANC and transparency mode. All of these things are possible through the earpiece. The headset has four equalizer presets, three of which are from Dynaudio. With their help, you can set the sonic signature according to your choice. I did not like the Dynaudio presets and preferred the Classic Enco X, which gave a balanced and detailed sound.
The Oppo Enco X2 has a dual driver setup with an 11mm dynamic driver and a 6nm magnetic driver in each earpiece. This is a very unique feature for true wireless headsets. The earphones have a frequency range of 20-40,000Hz. For connectivity, it uses Bluetooth 5.2. It supports SBC, AAC and LHDC Bluetooth codecs. During the review, I also got an update to support LDAC Bluetooth codec in the headset, but when I used it on OnePlus 9 Pro, it preferred the LHDC Bluetooth codec. It supports multipoint connectivity up to two devices. It also supports Google Fast Pair.
Oppo Enco X2 performance and battery life
The Oppo Enco X2 has been launched in the mid-range segment, but you will be surprised that it can compete with the OnePlus Buds Pro and Samsung Galaxy Buds 2. When it comes to sound quality, the Enco X2 seems to have gone far ahead. Most of the credit for this goes to its driver setup and also has advanced Bluetooth codec support which is rarely seen in the range of 10 thousand. When I used it with OnePlus 9 Pro and in LHDC Bluetooth codec, it performed like the sound I felt in Sony WF-1000XM4 and Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 3 headsets. Both of these headsets are much more expensive than the Enco X2.

The sonic signature of the Oppo Enco X2 is balanced. The dual driver setup produces an audible split in the sound and I could feel it distinctly in the low-parts, which resulted in tight bass while listening to fast tracks like Velvetine’s The Great Divide. The bass attack feels quite strong but not too much to bear. The frequency range is full in the mids and highs. There was a slight lack of precision in punchy beats and highs. There was scope for further improvement in upbeat vocals in fast electronica tracks. Similar results were seen in vocal-focused tracks like Calvin Harris’ Stay With Me. Halsey’s hook and Justin Timberlake’s energy seemed impressive in the track. This sound experience was similar to that of flagship headsets.
Having two drivers in each earpiece means that the Oppo Enco X2 can easily handle additional data thanks to the LHDC Bluetooth codec. The earphones also handled fast-paced, cohesive tasks with ease.
The Avalanche’s Wherever You Go sounded beautiful on the Oppo Enco X2. It had a punchy, refined and calculated reproduction. Active noise cancellation was also good in the headset as per the price. Different ANC modes were also provided for this, but there was no significant difference in them and I kept it set at Max level.

The ANC performance was better indoors than outdoors. It was able to block the sound of air conditioning or the hum inside the office quite well. It was not able to block outdoor sounds as effectively. Yes, the difference was clearly visible while listening to music while walking on the street.
Call quality and voice recording are quite good. It can capture clear audio. Connectivity was quite smooth up to 4 meters. Battery life was decent for me. Each earphone was able to last up to 4 hours on a single charge with ANC, medium volume and LHDC Bluetooth codec turned on. With the charging case, each earpiece gets 3 more cycles, taking the total run time to 16 hours.
Our decision
Oppo has created a new wave and set new dimensions in the TWS segment. The Enco X2 proves the company’s efforts more strongly. This is an impressive wireless earphone headset in many ways. Its design, its performance, far surpasses its price and it competes with flagship headsets, that too at half the price! Apart from average battery life, you probably won’t be able to complain about anything else.
Some people want options in this price range from brands like Samsung and OnePlus, but Oppo Enco X2 surpasses them here with its features and codec support. iPhone users will not get much benefit from codec support, but good tuning and app support make up for it to some extent. If you are an Android user, then you cannot get a better option than Enco X2 in the range below Rs 15,000.
